Abraham Lincoln

  • On June 16th 1858, this phrase was used as the opening line of a famous anti-slavery speech made by the future president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.
  • Lincoln became the 16th President of the USA between 1861-1865, the period of the American Civil War. Slavery was abolished in the United States when Congress passed the 13th Amendment on 31st January 1865.
