Roman Army Decorations

  • Roman Army Decorations and Medals were given to Roman Legionaries and their officers for gallantry.
  • The tradition dated back to 361 BCE during the Roman Republic when the Romans copied the decorations worn by the Celts.

Roman Auxiliaries

  • Roman Auxiliaries however did not receive Decorations, only their officers received Decorations.
  • If an Auxiliary Unit was successful, the whole unit would receive an award or Roman Citizenship.

    • gold armbands.

    • a ceremonial silver spear.
  • Miniature Silver flag
    • not known.
  • A cup
    • for single handed-combat.
  • Horse trappings
    • for single handed-combat.
