2. BRIEF SYNOPSIS

  • Aemilianus was commander of the Legions in Moesia on the Danube.
  • In 253 CE, Aemilianus took his legions to Rome and challenged Trebonianus Gallus, who either died in battle or was himself killed by his own soldiers.
  • After three months as Emperor, he was assassinated by his own soldiers on hearing of the approach of Valerian‘s Legions.
  • Aemilianus was described by Eutropius as a man from an insignificant family, who’s reign was even more insignificant.
