Water Newton Treasure

  • The Water Newton Treasure is 4th century CE Roman Silver Hoard which was found in Water Newton (Durobrivae) in Cambridgeshire in 1975 CE.
  • It consists of 27 silver items and 1 gold item which may have come from a Roman Early Christian Church and is located in Room 49 of the British Museum in London.

Description

  • Amongst the silver items are nine silver vessels, whilst the other items are jugs, bowls, dishes and a chalice.
  • These other items are embossed with the Labarum, the Chi Rho Cross, which was the monogram of the early Christian Church.
