Clodius Albinus

Clodius Albinus (194-7 CE) was the fourth Roman Emperor during the Year of the Five Emperors (193 CE).
He ruled as co-Emperor with Septimius Severus (194-197 CE) until 196 CE when he took the three British Legions to Gaul, but he was defeated by Septimius Severus at the Battle of Lugdunum (197 CE).

HEIR TO THE THRONE BECAUSE:
- Already co-Emperor with Severus since 194 CE, his three British Legions proclaimed him Emperor in 196 CE.
DIED PEACEFULLY OR ASSASSINATED:
- He died at the Battle of Lugdunum in Gallia Lugdunensis, and his body was run over by Septimius Severus.
WHERE BURIED:
- Gaul.

Clodius Albinus was the fourth Emperor in the Year of the Five Emperors.
In 194 CE he was allied to, and joint Consul with, Septimius Severus, who was fighting Pescennius Niger in the East. During this period he commanded the British Legions and the Spanish Legion.
In 196 CE his three British Legions proclaimed him Emperor, and crossed into Gaul.
After a brief battle, he made his capital at Lyon in Gallia Lugdunensis. However, he never succeeded in raising the support of the Rhine Legions, who supported Septimius Severus.
In 197 CE, Clodius Albinus was killed at the Battle of Lugdunum which involved up to 300,000 soldiers, according to Cassius Dio. He was beheaded, his body was run over by Septimius Severus and the head sent back to Rome.
