Laconicum

• In the Roman Baths the Laconicum was the dry room.
• This room was for sweating and resting, like in a modern sauna, to complete the bathing process.

The Roman Baths

• The Entrance:
  • Where entry fees were charged.
• Palaestra:
  • An outdoor colonnaded garden for exercising in, often with a Pool.
• Frigidarium:
  • This was the first room, which had a cold water Pool.
• Tepidarium:
  • This was the warm room, the main central hall, which had no water, and was where oiling and massages took place. All the other rooms could be reached from the Tepidarium.
• Caldarium:
  • The hottest room in the Roman Baths, and had a hot pool. The Furnace was located underneath the Caldarium.
• Laconicum
  • This was the dry room used for sweating and resting, like in a modern sauna, to complete the bathing process.
