Civitas

The Civitas (plural Civitates), also known as the Civitas Peregrina was a planned Roman town.
It was usually the capital of a Tribe in a Roman Province, such as Venta Silurum capital of the Silures in Britannia.

The Civitas were Planned Roman towns.
They were usually Provincial Market towns, protected by light wooden palisades.
The Civitas Council was ruled by an Ordo or Curia which made local Laws that applied to the Peregrini.
The Civitas promoted Trade and raised Taxes.
It was protected by a Militia which was commanded by a Decurion.
