- Florianus was Praefectus Praetorio and the half brother of the previous Emperor, Marcus Claudius Tacitus.
- He was proclaimed Emperor by the Legions in the West.
- However, the Legions in the East proclaimed their commander Probus, Emperor.
- The two armies met and fought a battle in Cilicia, which Probus won. Florianus was then assassinated by his own soldiers near Tarsus.
