Pozzolana

  • Pozzolana meant the dust of Pozzuoli and referred to the volcanic ash which came from the region around Pozzuoli which the Romans called Puteoli.
  • The Romans used the dust to form Roman Concrete which was exported all over the Roman Empire.

 Pantheon Dome

  • The Cupola of the Pantheon in Rome was built of concrete using Pozzolana.
  • It remains the largest unreinforced concrete Dome in the world.
