- Alanya is a port city and popular tourist destination located in the Antalya Province of the Mediterranean Region of southern Turkey.
- It was known to the Romans as Coracesium (Crow’s Nest) and was in the Province of Pamphylia.
History
- Coracesium was the main Base for the Pirates of Cilicia, who ruled the Mediterranean between 150-67 BCE.
- In 81 BCE, Julius Caesar was captured by the Pirates of Cilicia at the age of 19 and ransomed. After he had been freed, Julius Caesar returned and had all his captors crucified.
- In 67 BCE a war between Pompey and the Pirates ended their rule as a sea power.
- After the Battle of Manzikert in 1071 CE, the area fell to the Seljuk Turks (1037-1307 CE) who rebuilt the walls and Alanya Castle.
- The Seljuk galley sheds are still standing under the fortress on the sea.

- Alanya Archeological Museum
- Located at Ismet Hilmi Balci Cd. No: 2, Alanya.
- The museum holds a Collection covering 3,000 years of history, including Finds from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, including pottery, amphorae from the sea bed, statues, mosaics, a Roman oil press and a 2nd century CE bronze statue of Hercules.
