Albi

  • Albi is a Cathedral town  located on the river Tarn, 52 miles (85km) northeast of Toulouse in the Tarn Department of the Occitania Region of southern France.
  • The town is built in red brick like Toulouse, and is noted for the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Cecilia and the Pont Vieux (Old Bridge) built in stone and clad in red brick in 1035 CE.

History

  • In 51 BCE, Albi became the Roman ‘Civitas Albigensium’, the Capital of the Albiga Gallic Tribe which was located in the Province of Gallia Narbonensis.
