- The site of Alesia is now believed to be Mont Auxois near Saint-Alise-Reine in Burgundy. A reconstruction of the battle site defences has been built at the nearby MuseoParc Alesia.

- Alesia was a Celtic Oppidum, Capital of the Mandubrii Gallic Tribe.
- The Oppidum was located on Mont Auxois, close to Alise-Sainte-Reine, near Dijon.
- The Battle of Alesia is famous for the use of Circumvallation and Contravallation by Julius Caesar, and for being the last major Battle of the Gallic Wars, which led to Gaul becoming a Roman Province.
