  • Amiens is a city located on the river Somme in Hauts de France Region of Northern France. It is noted for its Medieval cathedral, the largest Church in France and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • It was the Roman town of ‘Samarobriva’, the capital city of the Ambiani Gallic Tribe, located in the Province of Gallia Belgica.

History

  • The Notitia Dignitatum (4th century CE) mentions the Classis Sambrica, a Roman Navy Fleet patrolling the Somme, whose base is unknown but may have been Samarobriva.
  • A Roman factory which produced Roman Shields and Broadswords was also based here.
