  • The Ancient Greek Language was the language spoken and written during the Greek Classical Age and the period of Ancient Rome, from the 9th century BCE to 6th century CE.
  • The language was derived from the Phoenician language.

Geographical Spread

  • Ancient Greek was the language of Ancient Greece and all the Greek cities around the Mediterranean Sea, known as Magna Graecia.
  • When Greece became a Roman Province in 146 BCE, Greek continued to be the main language in the eastern Mediterranean up until the end of the Roman Empire.
