- Another Grain Tax was the Annona Militaris which was used to supply Grain to the Legions.
Description
- The Annona Civica Tax and Grain supply was managed by the Praefectus Annonae Urbi who was assisted by three Procurators:
- Procurator Annonae Ostiae, (Procurator of Ostia)
- He and his staff were based at Ostia.
- Procurator ad Mercuriam (Procurator of Alexandria in Egypt)
- Procurator Neaspolis et Mausolae (Procurator in charge of the Alexandrian Grain Fleet).
- Procurator Annonae Ostiae, (Procurator of Ostia)
- Constantine I copied this structure when he created Constantinople in 330 CE.
