Appian

• Appianus of Alexandria (c.95-c.165 CE), also known as Appian, was a Roman Lawyer, Politician and Historian who lived in Rome.

Biography

• Appian was almost certainly from an Equestrian family and was born and lived in Alexandria.
• In c.117 CE, he moved to Rome to become a lawyer defending cases before the Emperors Hadrian and Antoninus Pius.
• In c.147 CE he became a Procurator, probably of Egypt. He was also a friend of another famous Roman lawyer, Fronto.
