  • Aqua Vitae was the latin for ‘water of quality’, a term used by the Romans to describe baptismal waters or various distillates.

Description

  • The phrase continued in use throughout the area of the former Roman Empire.
  • Today it is known as ‘Acquavite’ in Italy or ‘Eau de vie’ in France.
  • It usually refers to spirits produced by distilling wine, such as Brandy and Grappa.
