Aqueduct of Valens

  • The Aqueduct of Valens is a Roman Aqueduct that was completed in 368 CE by the Emperor Valens (364-378 CE).
  • It has a dramatic viaduct between two hills in Istanbul which is still standing today.

Description

  • The water system consisted of 160 miles (250km) of supply lines, three open reservoirs and one hundred underground cisterns.

Roman Site

  • A 3,185 foot (971m) stone and brick arched section is located at Kalenderhane, Avrupa Yakasi, Fatih, Istanbul.
