- The Arabian Sea is the Northern part of the Indian Ocean, between India, Southern Arabia, and East Africa.
- In Antiquity the Arabian Sea, included the Red Sea, and was known as the Erythraean Sea.
Periplus of the Erythraean Sea
- The Periplus is a Seafarer’s Guide to the Navigation and Trading Ports between the Red Sea and India written in the 1st century CE.
Monsoon
- The Monsoon carried the sailing ships eastward and the ‘Reverse Monsoon’ brought them back.
Sea Current
- The current in the Arabian Sea travels clockwise, north up the coast of Africa, east along southern Arabia, and south down the coast of India.
- The exception to this is the Somali Current which reverses between December to April, to become a southerly flow along the Somali coast.
