- The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is located in front of the Musee du Louvre in Paris. It was built by Napoleon to commemorate his victories.
- It is a copy of the Arch of Septimius Severus built 203-5 CE in Rome.
The Quadriga
- The Roman Quadriga located on top of the Arc de Triomphe du Carousel is a copy of the Quadriga which stood in the Hippodrome of Constantinople.
- The Venetians took the Quadriga from Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade in 1204 CE, and placed it on the loggia of Saint Mark's Basilica.They became known as the Horses of St. Mark.
- Napoleon then took the Quadriga from Venice in 1797 CE. Later, the original was returned to Venice and St Mark’s Basilica, where a copy now stands above the Loggia.
