Aristotle

  • Aristotle (c. 384-322 BCE) was a Greek Philosopher who is known as the Father of Western Philosophy.
  • His tutor was Plato and he played a key part in the Platonist School of Hellenistic Philosophy.

Biography

  • He was a student of Plato and tutor to Alexander the Great.
  • Aristotle formed and became head of the Peripatetic School of Philosophy at Athens.
  • He was succeeded by Theophrastus.

The Four cardinal virtues of Aristotle

  • Prudence, Temperance, Courage and Justice.
  • Aristotle changed Plato’s four cardinal virtues, by substituting Prudence instead of Wisdom.
