Babylonian Exile

  • The Babylonian Exile (587-539 CE) refers to the period in The Bible when the Judaean King and part of the Jerusalem population were removed to Babylon.

Description

  • In The Bible King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon and the Chaldean Empire besieged Jerusalem and captured King Jeconiah, his court and part of his population and brought them back to Babylon as Exiles. There were two further deportations.
  • The exiled population did not return to Judea until the Persian King Cyrus the Great occupied Babylon in 539 BCE.  This period of deportation is referred to as the Babylonia Exile (587-537 BCE).
