Baelo Claudia

  • Baelo Claudia is the Archeological remains of a Roman town located near the village of Bolonia, 62 miles (100km) south of Cadiz, in Bolonia Bay near the southernmost point of Spain at Tarifa.
  • Baelo Claudia was in the Roman Province of Baetica and was the Port of Departure for Tangier (Tingis) in Morocco.

History

  • Baelo Claudia was located almost due North of Tangier making the navigation of the sea crossing over the Strait of Gibraltar straightforward. The funnel effect of the Straits produces constant winds in an east-west direction.
