Ballista

  • The Ballista was a siege machine used in Classical Antiquity by the Greek and Roman Armies.
  • It was a large torsion powered crossbow using twisted ropes, worked by two or more men, throwing either a metal bolt or a stone.

Roman Siege Machines

  • The Romans adapted the design from the Greeks and called it the Scorpio.
  • The design changed again, and it became the Cheiroballistra.
  • It is not to be confused with the Onager, which was a catapult.
