Barbarous Radiates

  • Barbarous Radiates are locally produced imitations of the Roman Antoninianus.
  • The name is derived from the radiate crown worn by the Emperors depicted on the coins.

 Description

  • The Radiates are not considered as forgeries, as they were distinctively small and crude, and may have been produced to create small change.
  • They were produced during Crisis of the Third Century (235-284 CE).
