  • The Battle of Lake Constance 15 BCE was a naval battle that took place during the Roman Invasion of Switzerland and Austria.

The Battle

  • The Roman naval forces, probably Liburnians or Triremes, were assembled and launched against the fleet of the Vindelici based on the islands located in Lake Constance.
  • Dio Cassius states that Tiberius constructed transport vessels for this war.
  • Strabo states a naval battle took place between the two forces which resulted in defeat for the Vindelici and the Roman conquest of Switzerland.

The Outcome

  • The defeat of the Vindelici and the Roman conquest of Switzerland which became the Roman Province of Raetia.
