Bent Pyramid

  • The Bent Pyramid was built circa 2,600 BCE, by the Pharaoh Sneferu, Father of Khufu.
  • It is located in the Dahshur Necropolis 25 miles (40km) south of Cairo.

Description

  • The Bent Pyramid is so named because its sides first slope at an angle of 54°, then change to a shallower angle of 43°.
  • The Bent Pyramid is also unique in that its outer casing of polished limestone remains intact, unlike the other Pyramids.

The Pyramids at Dahshur

  • Several other Pyramids are also located at the Dahshur Necropolis.

Step Pyramid at Saqqara

  • The Step Pyramid at Saqqara, also known as the Pyramid of Djoser, was built by his Architect Imhotep, and was the first Pyramid to be built in Egypt between circa 2,667-2,648 BCE.
  • Many of the Pyramids are located the Saqqara Necropolis, 19 miles (30km) south of Cairo.
  • The Saqqara Pyramids contain writings on their walls known as the Pyramid Texts.
