Caligae

• Caligae (singular Caliga). was a Roman Army Boot consisting of a lace up Sandal with iron hobnails to reinforce the sole.
• It was an open sandal to prevent foot diseases on long marches. The Roman Emperor Caligula was nicknamed ‘little boots’ as a boy by the Roman soldiers.
