Cataracts of the Nile

• There were 6 Cataracts on the Nile between Aswan in Egypt and Khartoum in the Sudan.
• These are a series of shallow rapids and not waterfalls. In Ancient Egypt they became unnavigable when the Nile rose.

4. Fourth Cataract, the most difficult Cataract to pass, Napata previous capital of Kush
5. Fifth Cataract, confluence of the Nile and Atbarah River.
6. Sixth Cataract, city of Meroe, capital of Kush
