Centum Cellas

  • The Tower of Centum Cellas is a 1st century CE Roman Monument located at the Rua dos Bombeiros Voluntários, Belmonte, Castelo Branco District in Portugal.
  • It was originally part of a Villa rustica and is classed as a National Monument in Portugal.

Description

  • The property is thought to have been constructed k the 1st century CE by a Tin Merchant named Lucius Caecilius.
  • The Tower is 36 feet (12m) high and square shaped and formed part of a larger Villa rustica
  • However, the second floor was added in the 13th-14th century CE, so that it could be used as a watchtower.
