Chester

  • Chester is a Cathedral city located on the River Dee in the County of Cheshire. Chester Zoo is famed for being Britain’s best Zoo.
  • It was founded as Castra Deva Victrix, a Roman Legionary Fortress and city which still retains its Roman Walls.

  • Chester Zoo
    • Chester Zoo is located in a 130 acre country park off the A41 at Upton-by-Chester, which lies 4.5 miles (7km) north of Chester.
    • The Zoo was opened in 1931 and is now one of the largest Zoos in the UK, and has been regularly featured on TV.
    • It is home to over 9,000 animals consisting of 710 different species from around the world, many of which are rare and endangered.
    • The collection includes 79 species of mammals, 155 species of Birds, 52 species of Reptiles, 24 species of Amphibians, 100 species of Fish and 300 species of Invertebrates.
