- Cissbury Ring is a Neolithic Flint Mine and the second largest Iron Age Hillfort in Europe. There are Bronze Age Barrows nearby.
- The Site is located 3 miles (5km) north of Worthing in West Sussex, and is a Scheduled Monument managed by the National Trust.
History
- The Defensive Earthworks surrounding the fort were constructed during the middle of the Iron Age (800 BCE – 100 CE), and abandoned after the Roman Conquest of Britannia (43 CE).
- The encircling Earthworks are over 1 mile (2km) long with ditches as deep as 9 feet (3m). It had a wooden palisade.
- Nearby, in Brighton, 11 miles to the east, lies a Neolithic Causewayed Enclosure known as Whitehawk Camp.
