Civitas Peregrina

  • Civitas Peregrina, (Plural ‘Civitates Peregrinae’), also known as Civitas, were Roman Towns built by the Romans for the local Tribe.
  • Civitas Silurum was the Civitas Peregrina for the Silures in Britannia.

Description

  • They were Planned Roman towns, usually regional market towns, that were lightly protected by a wooden palisade.
  • The Civitas Council was ruled by an Ordo or Curia which made local Laws that applied to the Peregrini.
  • The Civitas promoted Trade and raised Taxes, and were protected by a Militia which was commanded by a Decurion.
