Council of Ephesus

• The Council of Ephesus in 431 CE, was the third of the Ecumenical Councils held to settle the differences within the Christian Church, particularly between Constantinople and Alexandria.

The Outcome

• It was convened by the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius II and succeeded in rejecting Nestorianism and Pelagianism and confirming the Nicene Creed.
• This resulted in the beginning of the split with the Eastern Orthodox Churches who finally left after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 CE.
