County Hall Roman Shipwreck

  • The County Hall Shipwreck is a Roman cargo vessel made from oak that was found when excavating the County Hall in London.

History

  • Discovered in London in 1910, on the Site of the County Hall, the Roman vessel dated to around 300 CE.
  • It was built locally using of Oak from local sources, but constructed by Mediterranean shipbuilding methods. No cargo was found with it.

Preservation

  • Some timbers are preserved in the Museum of London and others in the Shipwreck Heritage Centre, Hastings.
