Cramond

  • Cramond is a suburb of Edinburgh that is located on the river Almond where it joins the Firth of Forth.
  • It was Roman Caromago, a Fort and the sea port for the Antonine Wall in Scotland.

Roman Site

  • The ground plan of Cramond Roman Fort has been marked out in an open park area with information panels to explain the Site.

Antonine Wall

  • This was a 39 mile (62km) long Turf and Stone barrier with Forts, connecting Old Kilkpatrick on the Firth of Forth with Carriden near Bo’ness on the Firth of Clyde. Cramond Roman Fort would have supplied the Wall by sea.
  • It was located 100 miles north of Hadrian's Wall.

The Cramond Lioness

  • The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh holds the ‘Cramond Lioness’, a Roman stone sculpture found nearby depicting a lioness mauling a prisoner.
