Domus Aurea

  • The Domus Aurea meant ‘The Golden Villa’, which was a Palace in Rome at the base of the Esquiline Hill built by the Emperor Nero.
  • It was constructed between 64-68 CE, after the Great Fire of Rome destroyed half of Rome in 64 BCE. After Nero’s death, the site was built over and the remnants finally destroyed by Trajan in 104 CE.
