Edict of Thessalonica

The Edict banned the following:

  1. Arianism
    • The Edict obliged all citizens of the Roman Empire to observe Nicene Christianity, making Arian Christianity a Heresy.
  2. Ancient Egyptian Religion
  3. Egyptian Hieroglyphs
    • Effectively ending their use in the Classical World until they were deciphered again in 1822 by Champollion.
  4. Roman Gods
    • Ending all worship of the Ancient Roman Religion, now known as Paganism.
  5. Greek Pantheon
    • Ending the worship of the Ancient Greek Religion.
  6. Eleusinian Mysteries,
    • These Ceremonies, which were deeply wrapped in Greek Mythology, have now been lost.
