Egyptian Hieroglyphs

• Hieroglyphs were the formal written language of Ancient Egypt.
• It became a lost language after Theodosius I ended the worship of the Ancient Egyptian Religion in 391 CE.

Description

• There are over 1,000 Hieroglyphic symbols.
• The Egyptian Hieroglyphs continued in use during the Roman Empire until Theodosius I (379-395 CE) banned all Pagan worship in 391 CE.

Rosetta Stone

• The Hieroglyphs were finally deciphered in 1822 by the Frenchman, Jean Francois Champollion.
• He was able to use the Rosetta Stone as a guide, which holds a decree inscribed in three languages, Hieroglyphs, Greek and Demotic.
