- Emerita Augusta was the capital of Roman Lusitania, and is located in the modern city of Merida in Spain.
- The Archeological Site of Merida has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1993.
History
- Emerita Augusta was founded in 25 BCE by Augustus (27 BCE-14 CE).
- It was built to settle the veterans fighting in the Cantabrian Wars (29-19 BCE), from the Legio V Alaudae and the Legio X Gemina.
