- The English Channel, also known as The Channel and La Manche, lies between between the south coast of England and the north coast of France. It starts at the Strait of Dover and leads into the Celtic Sea.
- It was known to the Romans as the Oceanus Britannicus or Mare Britannicus. The western boundary is defined by a line between Isle Vierge off the coast of Brittany and Land’s End in Cornwall.
