Epiphany

  • Epiphany was an expression in Ancient Greek meaning a sudden realisation.
  • Epiphany is also a Christian feast day celebrated on January 6th.

Description

  • Originally, Epiphany referred to a new understanding achieved by the intervention of the Gods.
  • In recent times, Epiphany has come to mean a leap of understanding.
  • Archimedes had his Epiphany when he shouted Eureka ‘I have found (it)’, when he suddenly understood how to estimate the volume of a mass by its displacement in water. His inspiration came from climbing into a bath of water, and observing how the level of water rose.
