First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea

  • In 325 CE the Emperor Constantine I convened the First Council of Nicaea with 318 Christian Bishops to debate and decide various issues. Nicaea was an Ancient Greek city, located today in a suburb of Iznik, Turkey.
  • It was the first of the Ecumenical Councils, held to resolve the differences in Doctrine within Christianity.
