Temple of Mars Ultor
- The Temple of Mars Ultor, or Mars the Avenger, was built in Rome in 2 BCE by Augustus, to celebrate his victory over Brutus and Cassius at the Battle of Philippi in 42 BCE.
- The Ruins are located in the Forum of Augustus.
- It had an octastyle facade whilst inside was a huge marble statue of Mars.
Resting place of the Lost Eagles of the Legions
- Battle of Carrhae (53 BCE)
- The Temple was the location of the Eagles of the Legions lost to the Parthians by Crassus after the Battle of Carrhae in 53 BCE.
- They were returned in 20 BCE and placed here.
- Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (9 CE)
- The three Eagles of the Legions lost to the Germanic Tribes after the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE were returned in 14 CE and also placed here.
