- Book IV describes a year in the Gallic Wars (58-51 BCE) conducted by Julius Caesar against the Celtic Tribes in Gaul. After the war, Gaul became a Roman Province for the next 400 years.
- Julius Caesar wrote De Bello Gallico using the third person to describe his personal experience as the Commander-in-chief.
Book IV (55 BCE)
The Invasion of Germania and Caesar’s Bridge
- Caesar invaded Germania, to prevent the Suebi from growing as a dangerous power again. Although their was no battle, he sent his Legions to disperse the Suebi across a bridge over the Rhine.
- The bridge was a magnificent example of Roman engineering, which Caesar constructed in 10 days and then dismantled after the Legions had returned.
The First Invasion of Britannia
- He then sent Two Legions with a fleet across the channel and briefly invaded Britannia to show the Britons that they were not safe.
