  • Greek mythology is the collection of stories about the Greek Gods in the Ancient Greek Religion.

Hesiod's Theogony

  • The Theogony ia a poem by Hesiod (c.700 BCE) written in the epic dialect of ancient greek, and is considered the to be the source of Greek Mythology.
  • The Theogony describes the origin and genealogy of the Greek Gods.

The Twelve Olympian Gods

The Titans

  • The Titans were an older generation of Giant Gods who possessed incredible strength and who lived on Mount Othrys in Greece. The twelve most important Titans constituted the first Greek Pantheon (Temple of all Gods).
  • The first twelve Titans were the children of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Father sky).
  • In a ten year war called the ‘Titanomachy’, the Titans fought against the Twelve Olympians. The Titans were defeated and replaced by the Twelve Olympians who made their home on Mount Olympus.

The Muses

  • In Greek Mythology and Roman Mythology there were nine Muses.
  • Each was dedicated to the inspiration for Science, Poetry, and the Arts.
