Halicarnassus

• Halicarnassus was an ancient Greek city which is now located in Bodrum in the Mugla Province of southwestern Turky.
• It was located in the Roman Province of Asia.

History

• Halicarnassus held the Mausoleum of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Part of its Ruins can be seen today.
• Halicarnassus was the home of the Greek Historian Herodotus.

  • Located at Carsu Mah, Nazum Hikmet Sk. No:4 D:1, Bodrum-Mugla.
  • The museum holds models of ships from Bodrum used over the ages.

• Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archeology
  • Located at Bodrum Castle, Carsi Mh:, Bodrum-Mugla.
  • The museum holds artefacts from excavated vessels and two reconstructions:
    • Seytan Deresi shipwreck (16th century BCE)
    • Uluburun Shipwreck (14th century BCE)
      • 10 tons Cypriot copper ingots, 1 ton Tin ingots, 150 glass ingots, Mycenaean Pottery, Egyptian Seals.
    • Finike-Gelidonya shipwreck (12th century BCE)

    • Marmaris-Serce harbour shipwreck (Hellenisitic 3rd century BCE)

  • Room 21. The Museum holds Artefacts from the Mausoleum of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, such as Statues, Marble relief slabs and fragments of the Marble Four-horse Chariot that once stood on the roof.
