- Harfleur is a well-preserved medieval port town located in the Seine-Maritime Departement in the Normandy Region of France.
- It is situated on the river Lezarde near its confluence with the river Seine.
History
- It was known to the Romans as Caracotinum and was the main port of the Caletes Gallic Tribe whose capital was at Lillebonne.
- Harfleur was the main port of northern France for six hundred years until it started to silt up, along with Honfleur on the opposite bank of the Seine.
- Both were replaced by Le Havre, which was founded in 1517.
