Hecate

  • In Greek Mythology, Hecate was a Goddess who protected the Household. She is also associated with Sorcery.

Description

  • From the 6th century BCE, she was often portrayed by a statue called a Hekataion depicting her as a triple Goddess around a central pole.
  • These statues were placed at crossroads as she was thought to guard each approaching road.

Hecuba

  • Hecate is also portrayed either as a dog or accompanied by a female dog, thought to be Hecuba, Queen of Troy.
  • Hecate transformed her into a dog when she leaped into the sea after the Fall of Troy.
