Hecuba

  • In Greek Mythology, Hecuba was the Queen of Troy, married to King Priam and mother of nineteen children including Hector, Paris and Cassandra.

Hecate

  • From the 6th century BCE, Hecate was often portrayed by a statue called a Hekataion depicting her as a triple Goddess around a central pole. These statues were placed at crossroads as she was thought to guard each approaching road.
  • In one Greek Myth, the female dog accompanying Hecate was thought to be Hecuba. Hecate transformed her into a dog when she leaped into the sea after the Fall of Troy.
